- 2003-02-03 Support Bonaire,
Inc. Promotes Bonaire Turtle Conservation
BONAIRE, N.A. & NORFOLK, VA, USA – February
3, 2003 – Support Bonaire, Inc., a U.S. non-profit
organization created to help support Bonaire’s
charitable social and environmental efforts announced
today that it has donated funds to promote turtle
conservation on Bonaire.
Bonaire’s turtle conservation organization,
Sea Turtle Conservation Bonaire (STCB) www.bonaireturtles.org
does an excellent job monitoring sea turtle populations
and providing breeding protection assistance for
sea turtles during the breeding season. STCB is
a non-profit organization set up to help prevent
the extinction of Bonaire sea turtles and preserve
their natural habitats through research and public
awareness programs.
A major need is increasing people’s awareness
of turtle breeding and educating them to protect
the breeding areas, particularly on Klein Bonaire,
a small island just off of Bonaire.
Support Bonaire, Inc. donated money to pay for the
creation and installation of two signs on Klien
Bonaire. One sign provides education to the public
regarding turtle protection practices, and the other
indicates the presence of sea turtle breeding areas.
This sign not only creates awareness of the breeding
locations, but also educates people to not disturb
the turtle nests or hatchlings.
Support Bonaire, Inc. is an organization dedicated
to helping fund charitable environmental and social
projects on the Dutch Caribbean island of Bonaire.
As a U.S. Internal Revenue Service-approved non-profit
organization, donors may take a tax deduction on
funds they donate to Support Bonaire, Inc.
