Support Bonaire, Inc. Donates More Computers & Funds

BONAIRE, N.A. & NORFOLK, VA, USA – March 27, 2002 – Support Bonaire, Inc., a U.S. non-profit organization created to help support Bonaire’s non-profit social and environmental efforts announced today that it has completed a second round of donations on Bonaire.

The donations involved a range of recipients and types of items donated. Support Bonaire, Inc. also credits the Bonaire Rotary Club with being instrumental in getting donated goods from the U.S. to Bonaire. The Bonaire Rotary Club donated the funds necessary to pay all the shipping costs for the most recent shipment of computers and other goods contributed by Americans to help support Bonaire. The Bonaire Customs office was also of great help by waiving customs duties on the shipment.

The donations made by Support Bonaire, Inc. include:

  • Two computers donated to Sea Turtle Conservation Bonaire (STCB)
  • A computer system with printer donated to Aliansa – The Bonaire Nature Alliance
  • Two desktop computer systems with new monitors and a new printer, as well as snorkel masks and fins to the Zuster Maria Hoppner Stichting (Maria Hoppner Foundation), Bonaire’s fostering foundation for disadvantaged youth.
  • An Internet connection via CurInfo for the Stichting voor Kunst en Cultuur van Bonaire (the Bonaire Art & Culture Foundation)
  • A computer for the new non-profit community watch organization, Stichting Algemene Veiligheid Service en Toezicht

Support Bonaire, Inc. is a volunteer run U.S. non-profit corporation which derives all its funding and donations from Americans who wish to help support Bonaire. However, in recent month, a number of Bonaire-based individuals and organizations, including, for example, Tourism Corporation Bonaire, have donated computer hardware and supplies which have been used to build some of the systems donated during this round of donations.

The organization also announced that it is in need of working color computer monitors which work with PCs and run on 110-127 volts, as well as any financial contributions people are willing and able to make to help support Bonaire’s various non-profit efforts. Projects needing funding include help purchasing tents for use by the Bonaire Art & Culture Foundation for the Annual Dia di Arte (Art Day), walkie talkies and pagers for the community watch foundation, funding for a paintball gun and paintballs for marking donkeys by the Donkey Sanctuary so as to make Donkeys more visible at night and more shy of vehicular traffic, and Internet connections and Educational software for the Maria Hoppner foster home, among others.

Support Bonaire, Inc. is an organization dedicated to helping fund non-profit environmental and social projects on the Dutch Caribbean island of Bonaire, by being a U.S. Internal Revenue Service-approved non-profit organization, which in turn allows donors to take a tax deduction on funds they donate to Support Bonaire, Inc.
