Press Release - 2002-01-02

Support Bonaire, Inc. Arranges Initial Donations To Bonaire

BONAIRE, N.A. & NORFOLK, VA, USA – January 2, 2002 – As part of its charter to support environmental and social efforts to improve Bonaire, the U.S. non-profit corporation has initiated the first round of donations to various Bonaire charities.

The donations include various items, such as computers, animal supplies, and snorkeling equipment.

Several sets of snorkels and masks were donated to the Bonaire Marine Park for its Tortuganan di Boneiru program, which teaches Bonairean children how to snorkel and also to appreciate the amazing marine life Bonaire’s waters offer.

“I think what Support Bonaire is doing is great”, said Catriona Glendinning, the manager of the Bonaire National Marine Park. “They are helping connect Americans who want to support Bonaire with the tax-deductible means of doing so. It’s a win-win situation.”

The Bonaire Animal Shelter received a number of dog collars and flea and tick collars, while the Zuster Maria Hoppner Stichting received two notebook computers equipped with various software so that the children the organization fosters can learn basic computer skills.

“This is only the initial donation. We still have several computers for which we are seeking additional components, such as monitors, printers, and modems, which will be going to Maria Hoppner, Sea Turtle Conservation Bonaire, the Nature Alliance, and other non-profit, non-governmental organizations who submit approved proposals to our organization,” stated Linda Richter, President of Support Bonaire, Inc.

“It should be noted that our donations would not be possible without the generous contributions of Americans who love and care for Bonaire and want to help out in any way they can. They are the real heroes here,” added Ms. Richter.

Support Bonaire’s Board of Directors also gives special thanks to Bonaire’s Customs office, which allowed the donations to be imported without duties, and to Rocargo Shipping Services, which helped with reducing the cost of shipping and processing on the donated items from the United States.

Support Bonaire, Inc. is an organization dedicated to helping fund non-profit environmental and social projects on the Dutch Caribbean island of Bonaire, by being a U.S. Internal Revenue Service-approved non-profit organization, which in turn allows donors to take a tax deduction on funds they donate to Support Bonaire, Inc.
