Supported Bonaire Non-Profits

Bonaire Animal Shelter (Environmental/Nature) - Takes care of stray animals, including dogs, cats, birds, and even horses. Works to educate local populace about spaying and neutering animals to prevent unwanted animal pregnancies, and also offers animal adoption services.

Bonaire National Marine Park (Environmental/Nature) - The Bonaire National Marine Park is dedicated to the protection, conservation, and reclamation of Bonaire’s waters, coral reefs and the marine life that inhabit these natural areas. Bonaire’s National Marine Park manages one of the Caribbean’s largest and most pristine coral reef and marine park systems and depends on financial contributions and donations to support its park management, marine research, and environmental educational work.

Coral Resource Management (Environmental/Nature) - This organization assists in the development and operation of marine parks. Its local name is "Fundashon pa Bon Koral", which means "Foundation for Healthy Corals". On Bonaire, the organization is training and advising the staff of the Bonaire National Marine Park, as well as assisting the island of Bonaire in its efforts to achieve World Heritage status for the Marine Park.

Donkey Help Foundation (Environmental/Nature) - This organization has set up a sanctuary for stray or injured donkeys, which are generally wild creatures on Bonaire, left over from the days when they were used as dray animals and for transportation.

Jong Bonaire (Youth & Family) - Organization which provides after-school environment and activities to Bonaire’s school-age youths.

Klein Bonaire Foundation (Environmental/Nature) - Organization originally dedicated to securing Klein Bonaire as a protected area, and now that Klein Bonaire has been repurchased from developers, is working on helping settle some costs of that purchase as well as work on a management plan to keep the island environmentally safe and pure.

Maria Hoppner Foundation (Health & Social Work) - This organization provides care for children who come from families in difficult situations. Some of the children stay on a short-term basis, but many stay in the Hoppner home for years.

STCB (Environmental/Nature) - STCB is a non-profit organization set up to help prevent the extinction of Bonaire sea turtles and preserve their natural habitats through research and public awareness programs. The programs include public slide presentations, regular local media updates and the distribution of educational materials. Caring for the environment which supports sea turtles (coral reefs, sea grass beds and sandy beaches) is as much STCB’s concern as are the turtles themselves. Their research consist of underwater surveys, beach patrols , and biological monitoring of nesting activities and resident populations in Bonaire coastal waters. Gathering data from their very successful Sighting Network' in which all divers or snorkelers are encouraged to participate is of special importance.

Stichting voor Kunst en Cultuur van Bonaire (Culture) - The purpose of the Foundation for Bonaire Art & Culture, as its name would be translated into English, is to promote the appreciation and heritage of art and cultural traditions on Bonaire. The organization puts together the annual Dia di Arte event and celebration, held each July, to showcase traditional and new Bonaire art, music, and dance.

STINAPA (Environmental/Nature) - A private organization dedicated to nature and environmental protection, particularly the protection of flora and fauna around Bonaire and encompassing also nature and environmental education. STINAPA has two specific entities under it - the Bonaire National Marine Park and Washington Slagbaai National Park, each of which also stand on their own from the perspective of being able to apply for and get grants.
